This April 1946 cover features a half-frozen fly fisherman who, in his eagerness to start throwing flies for spring trout, seems to have forgotten it’s still winter. This early spring cover was painted by J.F. Kernan, who illustrated many classic Outdoor Life covers in the 1920s and 1930s.
