In this November 1951 cover, artist Charles Dye painted a scene familiar to bird dog owners everywhere: A duck hunter has just missed two gimme shots at a handful of ducks. Clad in a waxed duck coat and Stormy Kromer cap, the sheepish hunter exchanges a look with his black Lab, who has just been deprived of a retrieve.
