The August 1939 cover of Outdoor Life magazine features two paddlers taking out on a riverbank, fly rod at their feet. One man drags their red canoe out of the rapids, while his buddy shoulders a bundle of gear. This late summer cover was painted by renowned wildlife and sporting artist Walter Haskell Hinton, who illustrated many OL covers.
